Everything to know about the open-air, ocean-to-table restaurant cut into the Pacific cliffs at Waldorf Astoria Pedregal — and exactly how to plan the night.
Ask any local — or any Cabo regular — for the single most iconic dinner experience in the city, and the answer is almost always the same. El Farallon.
It's cut into the Pacific cliffs at Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal — the resort that sits on the same Pacific beach as Terrasol. The Pacific crashes a hundred feet below your table. The catch comes off the boat that morning and you choose yours from an iced display. The bread is warm. The champagne is cold. The sunset takes care of itself.
It's also one of the harder reservations in Cabo, one of the more expensive rooms in town, and the kind of place where the details matter — what to wear, when to arrive, what to order, where to sit.
This is everything we tell Terrasol guests before they book.
El Farallon is not a typical restaurant. It is open-air. There is no roof. The dining terraces are carved into the cliffside at Waldorf Astoria Pedregal, with tables tiered so every seat has an unobstructed view of the Pacific. Waves break against the rocks directly below the deck — close enough that, on calm nights, you can feel the spray.
The cuisine is Mexican coastal with a sharp focus on whatever the boats brought in that day. When you arrive at your table, you're walked over to a long ice display where the catch is laid out: snapper, dorado, hamachi, tuna, lobster, shellfish, sometimes more exotic local fish. You point. You discuss preparation with the server. The kitchen takes it from there.
Pricing is by the catch, which means the bill scales with what you choose. A modest fish for two can come in around $200 total. A whole lobster and a high-end tuna for four can climb past $800 before drinks. It is not a casual dinner. It is, however, almost unanimously remembered.
A separate clifftop bar that opens before dinner service. It's the iconic pre-meal moment of an El Farallon night: a glass of champagne, a plate of oysters, and the sunset, all from a perch above the open Pacific.
The terrace can also be enjoyed independently of dinner. If a full meal isn't in the budget — or if you want to do something memorable on a quieter night — booking the Champagne Terrace alone is one of the best mini-experiences in Cabo. Typical spend is $30–60 per person, and you walk away with the same view people pay $300 for.
Book the Champagne Terrace 60–90 minutes before sunset, and consider it the prelude — not the dinner. Then either move to a dinner reservation at El Farallon proper, or head back to your condo and cook in. Either way, the sunset on the terrace is what you'll remember.
El Farallon's sunset reservations are the most coveted slot of the night. To get the view at its peak, arrive 30–45 minutes before sunset, ordering the Champagne Terrace first and moving to your dinner table around sunset. El Farallon's dress code is firm but reasonable. It's a Waldorf Astoria restaurant in a luxury setting — but it's also outdoors, on a cliff, with ocean spray. Plan accordingly.
Collared shirt and long pants (linen, chinos, or dress pants). Closed-toe shoes. A light blazer is welcome but not required. No shorts, T-shirts, flip-flops, or athletic wear at dinner.
Dress, skirt-and-top, or smart resort wear. Sandals are fine if they're dressy (no flip-flops or athletic sandals). A wrap or light cardigan is essential for after-sunset breezes — even in summer.
Bring a layer. The Pacific breeze picks up significantly after sunset, and the cliff setting funnels the wind directly through the dining terraces. Even in July, the temperature can drop 10–15°F once the sun is down. A light wrap, jacket, or pashmina will save the second half of your meal.
Terrasol and Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal share the same Pacific beach — they're immediate neighbors on the coastline. Getting from one to the other is closer than at any other Cabo property, but a few details matter.
5–10 minute drive up through the Pedregal community gates to the Waldorf entrance. Uber is reliable in Cabo and runs about $8–15 each way. Valet parking is available at the Waldorf.
Note: Pedregal is a private gated community. Tell the gate attendant you have a dinner reservation at El Farallon and they'll let you through.
Walking along the Pacific beach between Terrasol and Waldorf is possible during the day if the tide allows. It's a beautiful, short walk along the sand. Not recommended after dark — the beach has no lighting, the rocks can be slippery, and you'll be in dressy clothes.
Waldorf can sometimes arrange a shuttle for restaurant reservations. Ask when you confirm your reservation. If you're staying at Terrasol Elite, Monica and Lorraine can also help arrange transportation.
El Farallon is one of the more expensive dining experiences in Cabo and one of the most memorable. It's not the right pick for every traveler or every trip. Here's how to know.
If El Farallon is full, over budget, or just not the right vibe for your trip, these three restaurants get you something close — at different price points.
The other iconic cliffside restaurant in Cabo. More accessible price point (around $80–120/person), terraced Mediterranean dining, equally photogenic sunset. Books up 1–2 weeks ahead.
Both at the Marina, both serving fresh local catch, both walkable from Terrasol. Less view-driven, much more affordable. Lorenzillo's is the white-tablecloth classic; Solomon's is the casual marina-front option.
30 minutes east in San José del Cabo. Open-air, farm-to-table, lit by string lights. The pace and significance match El Farallon — and the food is equally memorable in a completely different register.
Owner-remodeled oceanfront studio on the same Pacific beach as the Waldorf. Watch the sunset from your fire-pit balcony before walking over to El Farallon — and come back to a king bed facing the Pacific.
